Swish World Group today announced a major expansion of its infrastructure strategy with the development of its own autonomous network under Autonomous System Number AS218654, marking another significant milestone in the Group's Swish2030 transformation programme.
The move takes Swish beyond operating applications, platforms, hosting systems and DNS infrastructure and into the underlying network layer of the Internet itself. Through AS218654, Swish World Group is building the technical foundation to operate its own routing policies, connect infrastructure across multiple providers and locations, announce IP address space, and progressively develop a more independent global network architecture.
The new network forms part of the wider Swish2030 strategy to give the Group greater control over the technology stack supporting its services. Swish has already been rebuilding customer-facing platforms, internal systems, APIs, hosting infrastructure and DNS. AS218654 now extends that strategy further down the stack into Internet routing and interconnection.
Rather than relying entirely on the network architecture of individual hosting companies or infrastructure providers, the Group intends to increasingly place routing decisions, network policy and resilience within a Swish-controlled framework.

An autonomous system is a network or group of networks operated under a common routing policy and identified on the global Internet by a unique Autonomous System Number. AS218654 allows Swish World Group to participate directly in Border Gateway Protocol, or BGP, the routing system used to exchange reachability information between networks across the Internet.
In practical terms, the development gives Swish the foundation to build direct network relationships, connect infrastructure across multiple environments, increase route diversity and establish a network architecture that is not tied to a single cloud, carrier, data centre or hosting provider.
The network is being developed to complement existing Swish infrastructure rather than replace it overnight. Swish World Group will continue to work with external infrastructure, connectivity and hosting partners while progressively increasing the amount of routing, addressing and network engineering controlled directly by the Group.
Over time, AS218654 is expected to support infrastructure operated across SwishHost, SwishDNS and other Group services, alongside future network locations and interconnection points. The architecture is intended to provide a common network layer capable of supporting services regardless of the physical or cloud environment in which they are deployed.
Building Beyond the Application Layer
The launch of AS218654 reflects a broader shift taking place across Swish World Group. Under Swish2030, the Group has been systematically replacing fragmented and heavily third-party-dependent technology with custom systems designed around long-term control, scalability, performance and resilience.
That work has already included the rebuild of major Swish services, the introduction of modern API infrastructure, greater use of Swish-controlled database and hosting systems, and continued development of SwishDNS.
Networking now becomes another core engineering layer within that strategy.
The Group's long-term objective is to create an increasingly integrated infrastructure model in which applications, APIs, databases, hosting, DNS and Internet routing operate as coordinated parts of the same Swish ecosystem.
Designed for Resilience
The network strategy is also closely aligned with Swish World Group's approach to resilience. By building connectivity across multiple providers and locations, the Group can reduce reliance on any single upstream network or infrastructure environment and create additional options for how traffic reaches Swish services.
As AS218654 develops, Swish expects the network to support greater route diversity, multi-provider connectivity and future peering and transit relationships.
This gives the Group more flexibility in how services are connected and creates stronger foundations for future expansion across Europe, North America and other regions.
Part of Swish2030
AS218654 will form a core part of Swish2030, the Group's five-year, $40 million technology and infrastructure transformation programme.
Swish2030 is focused on replacing legacy systems, reducing unnecessary external dependency and creating a more integrated technology stack across Swish World Group.
The addition of an autonomous network represents one of the clearest examples yet of that strategy extending beyond software. Swish is no longer focused only on building the services customers see; it is increasingly building the infrastructure underneath them as well.
Development of AS218654 is ongoing, with further routing, interconnection and infrastructure expansion planned as the Swish network grows.
